Indigenous Traditional Agriculture Project

Project Background

HA identified the promotion of Indigenous traditional agriculture as a priority through consultations and an annual reflection workshop involving representatives from seven Indigenous language groups in Ratanakiri in 2023.
Community members and elders expressed concerns about the loss of traditional seeds, crops, agricultural knowledge, and traditional farming practices. In response, HA supports communities to preserve and promote traditional agricultural knowledge and resources while exploring opportunities to strengthen livelihoods.
The project also supports community initiatives such as collective farming, savings groups, and collective income-generating activities. For example, communities have initiated collective farming and planted crops such as cashew, cassava, and other agricultural products.
The project currently works with 10 target villages representing seven Indigenous language groups in Ratanakiri.
The project is supported through the Indigenous Peoples Assistance Facility (IPAF) of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), through Tebtebba.
